Alan graduated BSc Mechanical Engineering from Glasgow in1981. His career was in the drilling and well service service industry. His interest in geology proved useful in his career. His pastime of hillwalking in the Cairngorms and sailing on the west coast kindled a wider interest in geology and geomorphology. He takes a keen interest in the North East’s granite history and is becoming increasingly focused on glacial formations of this region.
Alan states that he was delighted to discover AGS about 1998, with its experts & enthusiasts, all sharing a common delight in matters geological and believes AGS is a fertile ground for growing the seeds of interest and making some great friends, what a combination !
He adds “Hail to the founding fathers of AGS and my educators. Many thanks to those who helped me get involved in the society from which I have gained tremendous satisfaction.”
