This is a Saturday afternoon walk led by Andrew Wainwright titled ” A Walk in the Woods, a trip to the Tundra”. It is a consideration of the late glacial history of the Hervie Valley. A short excursion booklet is now available to download for this walk from our “Field Trips” page – its 2nd from the top in the Excursion Booklets table. Please register your wish to attend with our Excursion’s Secretary, Rosemary Feilden by email. (excursions@aberdengeolsoc.org.uk). The trip is limited to 20 attendees.
If attending, we respectfully ask that you down-load and read the Pre-Excursion Awareness Checklist which sets out matters important to individual and group safety so that we achieve an incident-free excursion. It is also available from the Excursion Booklets table.
The Meeting point is Andrew’s house at Aquhorthies (Grid ref: NJ 71924 20066)
Please arrive in good time in advance: we will share cars to reach the site. The convoy will leave Aquhorthies at 13:00
To get to Aquhorties, take the A96 to Inverurie and come off right at the south side roundabout (at BP petrol station) and head into Port Elphinstone. Cross the River Don at Inverurie Bridge and turn left. Carry on this road for about 1.5 miles and turn left at the junction. Continue for just over 1 mile to reach Burnhervie. (The River Don will be on your left since you crossed it at Port Elphinstone). Turn right at Burnhervie onto the single track road and continue for just under 1 mile.to a crossroads. Aquhorthies is on the right beside the junction.
