Heritage Stones or Rox Pop?

This is the resurrected ‘granites’ trip that was cancelled in January ‘cos of the superfluity of cold and the paucity of light.  It is reorganised to illustrate geological beauty and spectacle, from amazing decorative granites and marbles that you can buy to clad your house with, to a visit to a surviving and healthy Aberdeenshire granite mega quarry with some revealing granite textures and intriguing large scale structures. This trip is being run by GW a sedimentologist converted to evangelising hard rockophile – a category of geologist that counts as amongst the worst informed and hardest to put down that you will ever meet.

The day (6^th April) looks like this:

• 10.30: Assemble Fyfe Glenrock, (FG)  (Leiths) at Oldmeldrum, the finest stone processing and stockholding unit in Scotland
• 12.30: Leave FG
• 13.00 Arrive Jaffs, Dunecht for soup n’ sandwich lunch
• 13.45 Depart Jaffs
• 14.00 Arrive Craigenlow  Quarry (Breedon) Dunecht, an extensive and modern granite quarry with surprising stock and exposures
• C.16.00 Leave Craigenlow

The trip will run even in the event of a Nuclear Spring and whether or not we have Brexited hard or soft. The rocks don’t care.  The day is split conveniently into two and you can choose to do morning at Fyfe Glenrock and/or afternoon at Craigenlow Quarry, entirely as you wish.  Why not come along just for the lunch? This is soup, sandwich, selection of scones and mini cakes, Tea/Coffee for £10 per person. It will require advance booking so please commit early.
